Day 1
Arrival at the airport of Palermo and transfer to the Villa
Igiea 5 stars hotel on the sea. Dinner, with the chef Rizzo,
at exclusive Osteria dei Vespri, famous restaurant where some
scenes of the famous Visconti’s movie The Leopard were
filmed. Return in hotel and overnight stay.
Day 2
Breakfast in hotel. This morning, you will be taken to Palermo’s
food market La Vucciria, typical “par excellence”,
full of color and folkloric. Here you will taste typical street
food such as pani ca meusa, panelle, arancini..., then you
will visit Teatro Massimo, Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria,
Cathedral, chiesa della Martorana. We recommend to have the
lunch (not included) at Antica Focacceria S. Francesco the
oldest restaurant in Palermo.
During the afternoon you will visit Monreale’s famous
Arab-Norman Cathedral and Cloister, the pinnacle of art for
this period in Sicily. Dinner, with the chef Maurizio Cascino
at the restaurant La Botte in Monreale. Return in hotel and
overnight stay.
3 Day
Breakfast and leaving to Segesta to visit the Greek Theatre
and the Temple. Transfer to Erice, a wonderful and mysterious
medieval town made famous in ancient times as the birthplace
of Venus. Walking through the cobble – stoned streets
of the town, smelling a variety of aromas emanating from the
numerous pastry shop for which Erice is famous. We will visit
the Norman Castle and the Duomo. Stopping at the world famous
pastry shop by Maria Grammatico, here we will taste almond
sweets, genovesi and nougat to match with Marsala wine. Lunch
at the restaurant Elimo, with the chef Carmelo Tilotta: he
will show us a rich Sicilian menu and will let us know some
of the Sicilian cookery secrets. During the afternoon we will
visit Donnafugata winery for a wine tasting and a tour in
the cellars with Wiebke. Dinner in the same cellar. Overnight
stay in Resort Baglio Oneto in Marsala with an amazing view
on the Egadi Islands, Mozia and the salt pans.
4 Day
Breakfast and leaving to Agrigento. We will visit the magnificent
Valley of the Temples, a scenery of extraordinary beauty,
amongst the imposing Greek ruins, the Garden of the Kolymbetra,
the Necropolis and the Archaeological Museum. Lunch at the
restaurant Leon d’oro, where the owner Totò will
show us the menu “At Table with Almonds”: an exciting
trip through the tastes of the Sicilian cooking. Accommodation
at the Dioscuri Bay Palace on the sea.
In the afternoon we will visit the charming old town centre
of Agrigento: Arabian quarter of Rabato as well as the Mediaeval
and Baroque monuments. Dinner on your own. After dinner we
will attend a Greek style play at Stoai in Agrigento. Return
in hotel and overnight stay.
5 Day
Breakfast and transfer to eastern Sicily through the Baroque,
whose heritage, both for importance and for beauty, has been
declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. At Modica, we will
admire picturesque lanes and narrows streets, with plenty
of old workshops. We will visit the Byzantine Rock Church
and St. George’s Church, the only one including a nave
and as good as four aisles. At the end of morning, we will
visit the Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, the oldest confectionary
shop of Sicily and taste the very famous chocolate of Modica.
Lunch on your own. Trasfer to the Mediterraneo hotel in Ragusa.
Visit of Ragusa, dinner at the exclusive Locanda Don Serafino.
Return in hotel and overnight stay.
6 Day
Breakfast and transfer to Noto. We will visit the Baroque
town and will taste the Granita Siciliana. Departure to Siracusa.
Until the Arab conquest of 878, the city was the capital of
Sicily. It was by far the most important city on the island.
We will visit the Orecchio di Dionisio, the Greek Theatre,
the Altare di Ierone. Lunch on your own. Accommodation in
Grand hotel Villa Politi in Siracusa. In the afternoon we
will visit Ortigia, one of the most interesting urban areas
of Sicily. We will visit its famous Duomo, constructed over
the ancient Temple of Athena. Dinner at Don Camillo. Return
to the hotel and overnight stay.
7 Day
Breakfast and departure to the Etna mountain. During the tour
we will admire the beautiful volcanic landscape of the biggest
European volcano. We will stop in Viagrande, here we will
meet Mrs Eleonora Consoli in her La Cucina del Sole (The Sun’s
Kitchen). Eleonora has written several cookbooks on Sicilian
gastronomy and is the unofficial expert on Sicilian cooking
in the world. She will conduct a hand-on cooking class, teaching
the class several classic Sicilian dishes. Our lunch will
be spent with Eleonora in her home.
In the afternoon we will visit the Benanti winery: Mr. Benanti
will show us the vineyard describing the organic cultivation
methods, the milestone and the cellar, finally we will sample
the best wines matched with local products. Transfer to Grand
Hotel Timeo, on the sea in Taormina. Dinner on your own. Overnight
stay.
8 Day
Breakfast in hotel. In the morning, you will be free to explore
Taormina, particularly the Greek–Roman Theatre and the
Corso Umberto with its luxury shops. In the afternoon leaving
to the Catania airport.
