Ragusa and Modica

We will discover eastern Sicily through the Baroque of the towns of Ragusa and Modica, whose heritage, both for importance and for beauty, has been declared World Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO.

Eastern Sicily still owns the very unusual fascination reflected in the beauty of its landscape, rich in colours and nuances. This land is particularly characterized by the picturesque “muri ‘nsiccu” (dry-stone walls) , ancient low walls built using white stones accurately fixed in order to trace out the original boundaries amongst different properties.
What makes the two towns so unique and charming is -above of all- their Baroque look, largely represented both in their planning and in their old centres.

Ragusa Ibla is a wonderful small town of the 17th century, where we will have the possibility to appreciate St. John’s Church, the Duomo (Cathedral), the Casentini Palace and the Municipal Villa.

At Modica, we will admire picturesque lanes and narrow streets, with plenty of old workshops, small huts and imposing palaces. We will visit the Byzantine Rock Church and St. George’s Church, the only one including a nave and as good as four aisles.
