Antica Tenuta dei Principi Pignatelli

In the gentle uplands of southwestern Sicily, Gianfranco Becchina’s country estate is an ideal location for growing olives. Sixty acres of groves roll away behind high walls surrounding the estate, part of which were the hunting grounds of the Princes Aragona Pignatelli Cortez of Spain. The Antica Tenuta dei Principi Pignatelli, as it is called, lies only a few miles from Selinunte’s seafront, the Mediterranean’s largest archaeological site after Athens.
Begin your visit at the Becchina olive mill and learn about the making of “Olio Verde”, his luscious extra virgin olive oil. Then, enjoy a delicious meal in the relaxing surroundings of Casina Pignatelli.
Experience exclusive tastes such as Castelvetrano’s unique wholewheat bread, called pane nero, drizzled with some fresh, deeply green and peppery Olio Verde Novello, as it pours out of the mill during the October harvest and pressing.
Try Gianfranco’s green olive paste and hot & sweet chilly preserve on local cheese amongst a selection of homemade appetizers. End up your meal with a sip of chilled, green limoncello (digestive lemon liqueur) or green mandarinetto (green mandarin liqueur), to be ordered from your waiter, if you wish, together with a number of high-end local wines and beverages.
